MWAC Rules: Scoring
Any offensive player can either throw, run, or receive for points. A player could catch their own pass off a deflection for 9 points (The Brad Johnson Rule). A faked field goal or punt that results in a touchdown is not considered a special teams touchdown for the team that was on offense. If a PK catches a fake field goal pass attempt for a td, the PK receives 6 points. A kick returner (e.g. Dante Hall) returning a special teams kick, scores 6 points for the Kansas City Chiefs defense/special teams, but does not score 6 points for himself as a WR. The "Keenan McCardell" Rule: A team's "usual" defense must be on the field to score defensive points. If an offensive player recovers a fumble off an opponent's interception, that score is credited to the individual offensive player, and not to the team's defense. For example, Tampa Bay is on offense and throws an interception to the Colts' defense. On the return, the Colts fumble the ball, McCardell picks up the ball and scores a td. This score does not get credited to Tampa's defense, but rather McCardell gets 6 points. Overtime: If an MWAC game is tied after all players are done playing, the game goes to overtime. Overtime will be decided by the most total yards of the starting players from each team. Total yards will be the sum of the QB (passing yards only), RB (Rushing yards only), and WR/TE (Receiving yards only). The team with the most total yards will be the winner. If total yards are equal, the game results in a tie.
