Arriving
RIT team personnel shall select a team leader and staging area for
the team. The staging area should be in plain view of the incident
whenever possible with a view of two sides of a structure. The RIT
staging area should be separated from other staging areas or operations
as to minimize distractions and shall be identified by a silver tarp.
The team shall gather required equipment from the host department’s
engine truck.
The team leader shall inform the incident commander of the RIT team’s presence and location of the staging area. The team leader shall gather information needed from the IC and initiate a size up or walk around. After the size up has been completed the team leader shall assign positions using the T.E.A.R. principle if possible.
The
team leader shall then initiate the stand-by, at this time the RIT
team will discus strategies and plans, check and inspect all equipment,
find a power source, make arrangements for a protective hose line,
begin to build an equipment pool if the situation appears to be escalating,
and continue to gather information as the situation changes. They
will hold in this stand-by position until the team is activated or
released from the scene by the IC.
