Vol. V:
More than 65 martial artists, including four black belts, earned new levels at belt promotion to the Stevens Point YMCA recently.
Kenn Johnson earned a fourth degree black belt and the title of taekwondo master following vigorous kick combinations and sparring, performance of the pyongwon form and a four-board combination break. Johnson used an elbow strike, a knee break and a back spinning side kick through two boards. He also demonstrated, joom bong, the Korean stick fighting technique.
Craig Beer moved up to first degree level after extensive testing. Beer performed all eight taegeuk forms and koryo, demonstrated sparring and breaking skills, and passed intense oral examination on taekwondo history and rules.
Joining the
deputy black belts ranks were Jackie
Magee and Heath Odan
after demonstrating five taegeuk forms, advanced kick
and sparring skills and board breaking. Oden broke with an autobahn kick, and Magee snapped her
board cleanly with a back spinning side kick. In
the color belt testing, Grandmaster
Masters Mark and Hilde Henkel assisted Dr. Stevens in the judging.

“Patience is
absolutely necessary to the study of Taekwondo.
Through patience and discipline, we can develop better concentration
while practicing our physical techniques.
The mind must be calm and the will determined,
in order to increase our moral courage.”
