My Hobbies
Cars in General, Mopar's In particular
I have owned and worked on a number of cars. I really prefer to work on Mopars. I drove a 70 Dodge Coronet to and from college in 1980-82 that had many miles on it. Dispite it's age it got me to and from college for 2 years. College was 160 miles from home and I travelled home about every 2 weeks. I was hooked from then on. Since then I've owned a 69 Dodge Dart Swinger, a 75 Dodge Charger SE, an 87 Plymouth Sundance, and now I own a 96 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe that is loaded and is magenta (plum crazy) in color. I have helped my brother with his 65 Dodge Coronet 500 Golden Edition. This was built during Dodge's 50th anniversary. I like a number of Mopars from the late 60's and early 70's. I like the 69 Charger Daytona, 70 Plymouth Superbird, AAR Cuda's, Challenger T/A's, anything with a Hemi, the hot colors Chrylser used like Plum Crazy, Lime Lite Green, Vitamin C Orange, etc.
Electronics
I enjoy building and sometimes designing electronic devices. I have built a number of Heathkit products including - a timing light, an oscilloscope, a number of voltmeters, a clock that tunes into the atomic clock in Colorado, a weather station, a frequency counter, an EPROM eraser, a breadboarding unit, an oscilloscope calibrator, a picture tube rejuvenator, and a power supply. I miss having Heathkit in business. I have designed analog to digital converter and display circuits, a remote digital thermometer, a pinewood derby timer that our Explorer Post rents to Cub Scout Packs, and a few other specialty devices.
Models
I have an N gauge model railroad that has been in the process of being built for over 10 years. I also have enjoyed building and launching model rockets. I've also enjoyed building various other static models. Some day I would like to build and operate a radio controlled model of some type.
Traveling
I enjoy traveling by air on occasion. I currently prefer Northwest Airlines simply because they fly to airports near my home and I have much less trouble having flights delayed or cancelled by them than I have on other airlines. Northwest has been slipping lately and I hope that tendency changes soon, although most of the trouble has involved Detroit. I really hope that the commuter lines soon decide to start flying more jets instead of the props they have been. I understand that Mesaba (Northwest Airlink) has gotten some jets. I hope they decide to use them to Central Wisconsin Airport. I really enjoyed a vacation I took to Hawaii (partially thanks to Northwest World Perks frequent flyer program) and hope to return some day.
Photography
While on these vacations I enjoy taking pictures. You can see some of the pictures that I have taken by following this link. My Pictures are here, you will notice that scans of 35mm film sometimes do not do justice to the original, but, you can get the general idea from these.
Flying
I have recently earned the title of Private Pilot - Airplane Single Engine Land. June 6th 2000 is the date I took the checkride. I can now fly a Cessna 172 with no instructor and can take passengers. You can find a link to the flight school that I am using in my links page. I have decided that I am going to continue on until I earn the Instrument rating so that I may fly in less than perfect weather.
