Torch Club
TORCH CLUBS are small group Clubs offering service and leadership opportunities to young people ages 11 through 13.
TORCH CLUBS meet the special needs of today's 11-to-13 year-old boys and girls by providing.
* A sense of belonging.
* Positive interaction with a small group of peers.
* Guidance and support of a committed, caring adult.
* Opportunities to make a difference in the world through helping others.
* A sense of pride, self-worth and accomplishment that flows from learning to make and take responsibility for decisions.
TORCH CLUBS are designed to assist girls and boys in becoming productive citizens. A TORCH CLUB consists of an adult advisor and six to 15 boys and/or girls who elect their own officers and plan and manage their own activities in four areas - Club and community service, education, athletics and fitness, and social recreation. During the course of a year, TORCH CLUB members conduct one or more projects in each of these areas. Examples of age-appropriate TORCH CLUB projects are:
* Service to Club and Community: Voter registration drives, visits to hospitals, neighborhood clean-up campaigns, homework and reading projects, Club special events.
* Education: Visits to libraries, museums and historical points of interest, behind-the-scenes visits to businesses, visits to colleges, publishing a Club newsletter, quiz bowls and debates.
*Health and fitness: Fitness clinics, dental exams, blood pressure screening, hiking, bowling, roller skating, bicycle trips, athletic tournaments.
* Social Recreation: Trips to amusement parks, chess and checker tournaments, scavenger hunts, Club sleepovers, holiday parties, film festivals, inter-Club gamesroom tournaments.
